Bodrum Municipality's Parks and Recreation Areas Directorate has been running a continuous weed clearance programme since May, targeting dry vegetation across parks, green areas, roadsides and pavements throughout the district. The work is explicitly tied to reducing wildfire risk during the dry summer months, alongside keeping public spaces tidy.

The numbers reported by the municipality are specific. In May, teams cleared 97,188 square metres of green space and 57,183 metres of roadsides and pavements. June saw a shift in emphasis: green space clearance came in at 86,709 square metres, while roadside and pavement work jumped sharply to 178,619 metres. Across both months combined, the totals reach 183,897 square metres of green space and 235,802 metres of roadsides and pavements.

The jump in roadside clearance during June is worth noting. Dry grass and scrub along road verges is a common ignition point in the Bodrum peninsula, where summer traffic is heavy and the landscape dries out quickly after May. Keeping those corridors clear is a practical step, not just a cosmetic one.

The Parks and Gardens Directorate says the programme will continue throughout the summer season. No end date has been given, which suggests the work will run at least through August, when fire risk in the Aegean region typically peaks.

Residents who spot areas of overgrown or dry vegetation in public spaces can contact the municipality directly. For broader context on how Bodrum manages its public environment during the summer season, see our local news section.
